SAY's first fundraiser for 2010 is upon us! The 30 in 30 Project has begun and our goal is to raise the funds necessary to apply for 501 c(3) tax exempt status. This experience will be great for our organization by bringing us closer to our goals and developing new friendships within the arts community. Randy Blackburn, the director of DCI World Class Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps has agreed to help out SAY in an advisory role. "So far he has been a big help to us. SAY is currently fostering a relationship that will provide a home for our performance ensembles to allow for auditions, practice camps, educational seminars and a great example of educational excellence. This is an entirely new direction for an organization like ours and more information will be provided as details are finalized. So stay tuned!
*Update*
SAY President and Vice President William Bargeron and Aaron Nichols met with University of Tampa Director of Bands Jeffrey Traster to explore the relationship described above. We are working to explore the best possible means to make this relationship one that can grow and foster the best results for all involved.

Magical Charters recently made a generous donation to Synergy in Arts for Youth in the form of a set of Ludwig marching percussion complete with 9 snares, 5 bass drums, 4 tenors, cases and stands. With this donation, SAY is able to move forward with our plans to field a competitive indoor drumline for the 2011 Florida Federation of Colorguard Circuit and WGI seasons. On behalf of everyone at SAY we say thank you to Magical Charters and their support.

Can you S.A.Y. winterguard?
Synergy in Arts for Youth welcomes our new staff John, Nikkei, Brandon, and Frederick. John Meyers will serve as Director for Synergy in Arts Independent, Tampa Bay's Premier A Class Winterguard. Nikkei Meyers, Frederick Bartelt, and Brandon Simpson will serve as SA Independent's Creative and Educational Team.

SAY welcomes Shelba Waldron in the role of Consultant for our indoor colorguard Synergy in Arts Independent. She brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will undoubtedly help our organization continue moving in the right direction. She has participated in colorguard since 1986 with the Pride of Cincinnati Winterguard and won the 1991 DCI World Championships with the Star of Indiana Drum and Bugle Corps. Her teaching career has spanned the disciplines of dance, gymnastics, colorguard and rhythmic gymnastics. She has had the honor of instructing five different guards who have gone to WGI nationals and placed in the top ten.

Board Secretary Larry Kelly will make an appearance at the FBA Conference this week to share with local music educators about SAY and our goals for 2009/10.

Synergy in Arts for Youth had it's end of the year board meeting on 12/20/2008. This meeting began with voting on both new and current board membership and establishing our goals for 2009. These include
establishing our first performance ensemble - Synergy in Arts Independent.

become an Explorer Post with the Boyscouts of America(in progress)
continue with fundraising efforts
continue recruiting for Board Membership and ensemble leadership
continue efforts in establishing relationship with local music educators

SAY recently met with a representative of the Boy Scouts of America for consideration of becoming an Explorer Post. This will help SAY to better serve our mission by contributing to our community and enjoying the benefits of such a relationship with the Boy Scouts of America.
